Thagarakuppam is a village in Tamil Nadu, which translates to “village made of cheap metal.” Although the name may provoke laughter among Tamil people, the village’s youngest generation resembles unpolished diamonds with great potential to shine and enlighten the world around them. This is where LOGOS VISION TRUST (LVT) comes in, a Christian ministry founded in 1994 by Dr. Mrs. Emma, a physician, and Mr. Arasu Rajaratnam, a Mechanical engineer, to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the poor and needy in villages and slum areas of Tamil Nadu’s southern region.
LVT is located at Logos Vision Center, a multi-purpose building in Thagarakuppam, approximately 16 kilometers from the nearest town, Ranipet, on the Chennai Bengaluru Highway and 130 kilometers from Tamil Nadu’s capital city, Chennai. The LVC building serves as a hub of activity, including an English coaching school and a community center for other activities.
The villages of rural TN have a tremendous, unmet need for education, medical care, and vocational training/job skills training for adults. Poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment keep many people in hopeless situations. The lack of adequate education and job skills to meet the modern job market leaves many men and women unemployed.
In June 2007, the dream to develop an English medium school for the rural kids of Thagarakuppam and the surrounding villages was realized. Starting with twenty-eight children in lower kindergarten, the school has grown to one hundred and twenty-eight children ranging from LKG to STD III, with one principal and six teachers. The school was named Hannah Nursery and Primary School, and its students are often the first generation in their families to attend an English medium school. The parents in the surrounding villages are primarily daily wage earners whose existence is dependent upon agriculture, subsidized by the incense sticks making industry.
Our vision is to create a Christian English medium school that serves as a beacon of hope for rural children in an increasingly globalized world. Through a rigorous and holistic education, our students will be empowered to compete on an equal footing with their urban and suburban counterparts who receive a comparable education. Our commitment to providing a faith-based education, combined with our focus on excellence, will equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and character necessary to succeed in life and to become leaders who make a positive impact on their communities and the world.
Our mission at Hannah School is to provide free and quality education to the children of Thagarakuppam and its surrounding villages, empowering them to become well-rounded individuals who are academically strong and spiritually grounded. We strive to instill in our students a sense of responsibility and commitment towards their education by collecting a nominal fee of INR 25 per child per month. Our school follows the Tamil Nadu Government's curriculum and is officially registered and certified by the government. We aim to provide a holistic education that not only focuses on academics but also incorporates Christian values and biblical teachings to help our students understand the faithfulness of God and the love of Christ. We strongly believe in the importance of parental involvement in their children's education and encourage them to understand the value of education and the significance of imparting Godliness, discipline, and cleanliness to their children.
